Flint and Steel with Birchbark

Very fast method of fire lighting with readily available materials.

There are many variations of flint and steel fire lighting and many insider tips that I will be sharing. As for using natural materials, in a mixed or boreal forest environment (where grasses are often damp), using birchbark is about the fastest way to get a secure flame.

A store bought flint and steel can literally shower tinder with sparks. Note that is may look easy in the video but it takes practice. More difficult methods include quartz rocks and steel striker where the sparks are not so generous as in the video. What I like about flint and steel methods is that the set-up will make hundreds of fires and is a great back-up to your survival kit.
